Summer glow vs Oompa Loompa

Soooooooo it’s officially been the longest 6 month winter evvvvver.  Who else is feeling like a cast member of pinky and the Brain?  White white white. 🤢. Now don’t get me wrong, lovely pale skin is somewhat attractive in its self (on other people generally), but as a self confessed tanarexic I struggle with it on myself. Pale and interesting just is not me.

For 20 long years I’ve punished my skin with sun beds and excessive sunbathing at any opportunity. I’ve never  used sun creams or blocks and generally caused irreversible visible damage. Most of this has come down to trying every fake tan available to woman on the market over the years and hating every one  of them.  My skin is on the dry side and has so much damage I couldn’t find one that didn’t cling or make it feel tight and dry after application and let’s not even discuss the patchy horror once it starts to come off. 😫 It looks like a medical condition in itself.  So In conclusion to this I resigned myself to choosing the life of white or putting my skin back through more torture on sun beds.

Then two weeks ago I was casually scrolling through my Instagram feed when one of those annoying adverts pops up that always make you wonder, ‘when did I start following this page?’ And realizing you in fact did not. It found you.
(I’ve often wondered how big brother knows these things. Talk about it on Monday and social media throws it at you on Tuesday. Scary biscuits isn’t it?)
Anyway I digress. So this advert popped up for a fake tan product I’d never heard of before. Mine Tan. Maybe I’m way behind the times but it’s the first time I’ve ever heard of it. It claimed to moisturize and smell delightful basically so I clicked and went to the website to read more...... Minetanbodyskin.com.

The first thing I noticed was that it asks you questions about your skin , so is it fair to dark? Or is it dry or oily.? Etc etc and then they recommend the perfect product for your own skin type and tone. Mine came out as the coconut water foam for dry skin.  I thought why not give it a go and it can join my half used fake tan grave yard and ordered some which arrived yesterday.  (I’d like to add here I shopped around and found it on the superdrug website in their sale for considerably less than on their website).

On my day off today I decided to try it and see if it lives up to the hype. I followed the instructions to the letter to apply it. Scrub, exfoliate blah blah and then applied the foam with a mitt. I have to admit it did smell lovely and felt very silky.
Usually when I apply other brands even at this point as it drys in it tightens my skin and I want it off right away. I didn’t this time. The advice is to leave it on for 1-3 hours depending on the depth of tan you wanted. However, it does continue to deepen over the next 24 hours allegedly.
I only left it on for  one and a half hours, mainly because I was so pale I could frighten the dead and also because I wasn’t sure how dark was ‘dark’ being a first time user. I rinsed it off after that time. They advise no soap and to quickly rinse for 45seconds and it’s lovely. So natural. It really hasn’t dried my skin out. It feels silky, smooth and hydrated, and doesn’t smell as strong as other fake tans although I can smell a slight whiff of roast beef monster munch two hours later but no where near as strong as I’ve smelled before when trying tans. I would be pretty happy to leave it on the full 3 hours next time and see what happens. I’m also curious to see how this 24 to continue developing happens. I’d say I’m about 2 shades Darker than the death glow I previously had and happy enough with that for now but there’s no hint of oompa loopma or mud just a tanned glow and that’s good enough for me for now.

My advise if you’ve never tried fake tan before, or even been put off by previous fake tan disasters would be give it a go. Definitely go onto the website and do their questionnaire though as it does come in 5 different shades and the coconut water tan for dry skin. It’s worth getting the correct one for you.

I’ll definately be giving it another go. It might even convert me. 🤪
